Registration Open for All 2025 Salty Dawg Rallies

The Salty Dawg Sailing Association, in its 15th year of “Sailors Helping Sailors”, announced today that it will be hosting five (possibly six) rallies in 2025. Mike Benjamin, President of the Salty Dawgs noted that, “Each rally is an opportunity for sailors to cruise-in-company with the safety, camaraderie, passage-preparation assistance and learning that only a rally can provide and with minimal requirements and minimal costs. Join our community, meet new friends and reunite with old ones. Kids and pets are always welcome.”

Planned Rallies:

  • Homeward Bound Rally – May 18, 2025: Departing from both Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten and Marsh Harbor, Bahamas on or about May 18, bound for various ports on the US East Coast with an optional stop in Bermuda.
  • Downeast Rally – July 5, 2025: This Rally will have three legs, departing from Hampton, VA in early July, with Newport, RI, as the first stop. Then on to the charming island of Cuttyhunk, MA with a passage through the Cape Cod Canal, a night offshore in the Gulf of Maine and final landfall in Rockland, ME around July 15. Cruisers can join the rally at any port.
  • Bermuda Rally – May 18, 2025: New in 2025, a 650-mile (6-7 day) rally from Hampton Virginia to the charming and stunningly beautiful island of Bermuda. Bermuda is probably the most common offshore destination for East Coast sailors in the U.S. The Bermuda Rally takes advantage of the relatively stable weather available in May.
  • Azores Rally – May 18, 2025: New in 2025, a rally across the North Atlantic to Horta in the Azores, with starts in Sint Maarten and Hampton VA, on May 18th with an initial stop in Bermuda. The fleet will gather there for final preparations and festivities and depart for the Azores on June 1, weather permitting. The passage is expected to last approximately 2 weeks. • Caribbean Rally – November 1, 2025: Our signature rally to the Caribbean will depart from both Hampton, VA and Newport, RI around November 1, going to your choice of the Bahamas or Antigua, with an optional stopover in Bermuda.
  • Maritime Rally – July 20, 2025: Only if there is enough interest, the Salty Dawgs will run its Maritime Rally departing Rockland Maine in mid-July for points in Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton and Bras D’Or Lakes.

No matter which rally you choose, you will benefit from:

  • Leadership by seasoned sailors who volunteer their time and knowledge to help cruisers realize their dreams.
  • Weather support and routing by Chris Parker and the Marine Weather Center.
  • Shoreside support and a 24/7 standby emergency response team to help ensure a well run and safe rally for all. • Comprehensive “concierge” style 24/7 emergency medical support from GW Maritime Medical Service from George Washington University. (Available to Homeward Bound, Bermuda, Azores and Caribbean Rally participants)
  • Position tracking map.
  • Planned social events and camaraderie. Registration and more information can be found at www.saltydawgsailing.org/rallies
